VOLLEYBALL: Indoors sports are challenging because every gym has different lighting and photographing players wearing red is the biggest challenge.
Volleyball you can’t use flash during an active game, as well as in basketball, nor strobe lighting. Basketball you can set up strobes. Good strobe lighting is costly and something I am considering but for now, it’s learning new ways of shooting volleyball and basketball.
GOLF: The only sport my husband is with me during assignments. He loves golf. I think it’s a way to keep that connection with his dad. Before his dad passed away in May, they would golf every week together. It was fun hearing their golf outing stories.
I have a tendency to get too tensed up when photographing a sport I am not familiar with. I make sure my camera is on silent shooting and try to stay out of their line.
JV Football: My favorite sports to photograph, one because they start at 6pm and I get more daylight hours. Two; just like in middle school these levels of sports rarely get any media attention. So I do what I can.
Varsity Football: Okay so this happened…
Getting more use out of my 400 for as long as I can, this is probably the coolest photo I have ever taken in sports. The sun was dipping at the right time and I was at the right place on the sideline. Although this would not be acceptable for MaxPreps or any editorial work, I just think it’s neat.
Have a great weekend.. be creative!
